Level 2 EV Charger Installation in the Capital Region

Choice Electric installs Level 2 EV chargers for homeowners in Schenectady, Albany, and Saratoga counties. We look at your panel and what you are adding, then tell you if the panel can take the charger or if you need a panel upgrade first. Call or text (518) 952-0228.

A Level 2 charger cuts home charging from a day-plus on a wall outlet down to about 4 to 8 hours. We wire Tesla, Ford, Chevy, BMW, Honda, and the rest. The brand on the car does not change the electrical work.

What the job actually includes

Most homes need a dedicated 240-volt circuit and a NEMA 14-50 or a hardwired charger. We also handle:

  • a look at your panel and what you are adding (full load calculation when you ask for it)
  • the permit and inspection
  • a new breaker in the panel, when there is room
  • a panel or service upgrade, when there is not
  • indoor or outdoor disconnects the 2023 NEC now wants on many new services

National Grid territory covers this whole area. If the charger forces a service upgrade, the utility has to disconnect and restore power. A charger on an existing 200-amp panel with spare capacity is usually a one-visit job.

Charger-only vs panel upgrade first

If the panel has spare capacity, we can often add the charger circuit alone. If it does not, we upgrade the panel or electric service first, then install the charger. We look at your panel and what you are adding — a full load calculation is available when you ask for it.

A small bungalow with gas heat can often take a charger on 100 amps. A Guilderland or Clifton Park house adding a 48-amp charger and a whole-home heat pump usually cannot. If the panel is the blocker, read electrical panel upgrades or the Schenectady County panel upgrade cost guide.

Where we install

We are based at 2767 Curry Road, Schenectady. The towns we write real local pages for are the ones with the most charger work:

We also install in the rest of those three counties, including Latham, Delmar, Guilderland, Halfmoon, Malta, and Scotia. Those jobs run through this page. You do not need a separate town URL to get a quote.

Rebates and tax credits in 2026

NY Clean Heat rebates go to the HVAC contractor, not to us. Charge Ready NY 2.0 is for commercial ports, not a typical garage charger. There is no federal panel tax credit in 2026. Income-eligible one-family homes can check EmPower+ at nyserda.ny.gov if the charger is part of a larger electrical upgrade. We do not invent rebate amounts.

How to get a quote

Call or text (518) 952-0228. Tell us the town, the car, and whether you already have 200 amps. We will tell you if this is a charger-only job or a service upgrade first. For no-power emergencies, use our contact page.
